$721 million power project proposed for Louisiana
Entergy Louisiana’s Ninemile Point plant is up for a brand new electricity generating unit which is set to cost $721 million.

The 550-megawatt generator, which will replace two deactivated 1950′s-era generators, will run on natural gas and will save at least 669,000 customers in between $26 to $53 million each year. Once the state’s Public Service Commission approves the project and determines how much of the cost will paid by Entergy’s customers, construction will begin.

The company estimates that at least 17 jobs will come from this endeavor, along with hundreds of jobs over the course of construction.

A portion of the output will be purchased by two other Entergy Corp. utilities — Entergy Gulf States and Entergy New Orleans.
