Florida ranks 2nd in foreclosure filings
The state of Florida has been ranked second in foreclosure filings in the country after 113,641 properties received foreclosure notices within the first six months of 2011.
This spike in foreclosures comes after a 59 percent decrease in the first half of 2010 and a 55 percent decrease in the second half of the year.
June reports reflect that in the Miami-Dade area alone, one in every 319 homes received notices. 2,547 notices were received in Palm Beach and 1,979 notices were received in Broward.
At least 1.2 million properties (one in every 111 housing units) in the United States have received forclosure-related filings during the first half of 2011, which is a 25 percent decrease from the latter half of 2010.
As outlined in our Agenda for a Better South, nurturing the economic development of each southern state is a priority of the Center and one of the best first steps towards achieving this is by providing homeowners with counseling and assistance that allows them to explore existing options that may prevent future home loss.
