Louisiana: The volunteerism state?
A LSU study has revealed that over half of Louisiana’s adult population engages in some form of volunteerism — ranging from individual projects and projects with religious groups and nonprofits.
Commissioned by Volunteer Louisiana — a branch of the Louisiana Serve Commission — interviews were conducted with 720 residents in towns from all 64 parishes to gather these results — which varied demographically: 58% Latino; 54 percent White/Caucasian and 42 percent Black/African American/Native American — with the highest levels of volunteerism were found within the religious community.
To further Louisiana’s volunteer efforts, the state is also engaging in a new campaign to promote volunteerism. “All We Need is U” — a project of Volunteer Louisiana — will be used to encourage individuals to continue their volunteer efforts.
Encouraging this type of civic engagement is an excellent way to build and strengthen communities — a goal upheld with our Agenda for a Better South.
