"This is an outstanding new service we offer to help people make sense of what's happening in the policy world across the South," Center President Andy Brack said. "There's more and more information that assaults us every day and this service helps cut the information glut to make some sense out of policy-related stories that make a difference to our lives."

The new ThinkSouth.org service, which draws from stories published in major newspapers and media from Florida to Virginia to Arkansas and Louisiana, allows readers to see connections that occur across the region - and may help readers and subscribers see links that can be helpful in their states.

For example on Thursday, readers learned about how Kentucky Gov. Steve Beshear has announced new "green" office building regulations for his state - one of the many recommendations in a 2007 book of environmental ideas offered by the Center.

"Seeing how one state is advancing green ideas may help leaders in other states take bold moves more quickly," Brack said."

Another example: Earlier this week, Arkansas Gov. Mike Beebe signed into law a measure that would raise the state's cigarette tax by 56 cents. Coincidentally, a similar measure is being debated in South Carolina. The news from Arkansas might be useful to proponents or opponents of the South Carolina legislation.
